Holiday Party at the Zoo
Children and families will have a chance to see Santa Claus at Riverside Discovery Center during RDC’s annual Holiday at the Zoo celebration December 12 from 11am – 2pm. In addition to Santa, this year the event will feature children’s winter crafts and activities, caroling, cookie decorating, and a chance to watch the animals open their presents. Families are encouraged to bring their cameras for fun photo opportunities with Santa and other winter decorations.
RDC staff will also be serving hot cocoa, chili and s’mores as concessions to warm people up as they celebrate the season. If you’re looking to put something wild under the Christmas tree this year, annual memberships will be available for purchase as gifts during the event.
This will be a fun holiday event for everyone, including our animals! They love getting into their presents almost as much as the public enjoys watching!
Call (308) 630-6236 for more Info.
Animals Like Presents Too!
During the month of December RDC runs its annual Jingle Paws campaign
To allow the local community to include the animals at the zoo in their gifting plans, Christmas trees with gift idea decorations are placed at various local businesses and in the Zoo gift shop.
If interested, you can simply choose to buy any suggested gift you like for the animals and bring it to the zoo at Christmas time.
Santa, his helpers and Ms. Claus will come one day to see all the generous gifts that have been given to our animals
Enrichment All Year Round
Your generosity means that we have new toys and treats for the animals that lasts us for half the year.
All the gifts are incorporated into our enrichment plans for the resident animals. Enrichment is used to enhance the lives of our animals by stimulating natural behaviors and providing novelty and appropriate choices on a daily basis.
Enrichment prevents boredom and alleviates stress, it also provides fun for animals, staff, volunteers and visitors alike.
Below is a list of suggested items to donate and many items that animals like to play with.
